Shootout involving officers in Eden Valley leaves one dead
An Eden Valley police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 55 early Saturday morning.
After a brief pursuit, the pursued vehicle crashed into a ditch at approximately 2:20 a.m. about a mile west of Eden Valley
The fleeing driver exited the vehicle and gunfire ensued.
Police say the suspect was shot and the officer immediately began administering first aid.
Meeker and Stearns County Deputies also responded to the scene with Litchfield Police and Watkins Emergency Medical Services.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
A press release from the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office states that a handgun was recovered from the scene.
Eden Valley Police do not carry body cameras, but a squad car camera recorded the incident.
The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was called to the scene and has taken over the investigation.
The deceased was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner‘s Office for identification and the official cause of death.
Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze says the officer was not injured.
According to the police, no further details are currently available.
