“They called me months ago and asked me if I wanted to do this. I thought, ‘Are you kidding? Of course I want to go!’”

It’s never too late to start

If you have ever come across Shashi Naidoo, you can see that this is a person who is very focused on taking care of their physical health. However, you may be surprised to hear that she first entered a gym when she was 30 years old!

Luckily, the activity grew on her and the actress jokes that she’s addicted to it, and we can’t really blame her. An active lifestyle has amazing benefits for the body, and not just in a physical sense,

“During lockdown I got into a depressed state because I wasn’t moving” says Shashi, adding that this is a real indication that her body needs to move and be active.

Feel your food

Shashi admits that she is a food lover and guilty of indulging. However, she tries her best to stay on the sane side of things. Unfortunately, she may be forced to change her eating habits on the island, in the real world Shashi focuses on consuming foods that help her sustain herself.

In addition, she also encourages a mindful approach when it comes to her diet. To do this, she looks at how she will feel after eating a certain food.

“I think the older we get the more we realize, ‘Oh, it doesn’t make me feel good, it makes me feel sluggish and slow’… I think now I’m more in tune with my body and what it wants .”

The game plan

So how does Shashi prepare for her island games? By focusing on her fitness and escalating her training schedule, with plans to improve her swimming skills as well.

However, that’s not all she does. The island games also test brawn and brain power. As such, Shashi has also made a habit of testing her brain by solving mental puzzles. “I think it’s never too late. I’ve changed careers 100 times.
