Corpse found on Chicago beach identified as missing boat driver, coroner says Chicago News



Two of the boaters were being treated for hypothermia and a third person was in critical condition, officials said. All three have since recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.

The boat was salvaged on the Illinois side of Lake Michigan on May 7, said Tyler Brock, an official with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation.

Hailing from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, Crespo had moved to Chicago last year and started a career with FedEx, his family said. His father, Benjamin Soto, had searched the coast since his son’s disappearance and had since returned to their home in Puerto Rico. He described Crespo as a loving son, hardworking worker, and caring person who loved talking to people. He was Soto’s youngest child.

Soto said arrangements are being made to bring Crespo to Puerto Rico for funerals and funerals.

To pay Crespo’s funeral expenses and have him transported to Puerto Rico, his family has launched a GoFundMe campaign called “Carrying Kelvin Home,” hosted by Benjamin Soto. So far, $ 4,555 of the $ 11,000 goal has been raised.

“I’m trying to hold on, it was hard,” said Soto. “I want to thank everyone for their prayers, support and everything. Thank you.”
