Body of missing man found in Des Moines River

The body of a man who went missing after a boat capsized on the Des Moines River has been found. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholt confirms the body of Dustin Dittmer, 34, of Colfax, was recovered near the Bennington boat ramp just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the death. “We’re excited to bring the family to a close,” says Sandholt. “We are grateful to all authorities who have assisted in the search effort.” Dittmer was listed as missing after a boat capsized on Lake Red Rock around 4 p.m. on May 7. Knoxville City Fire and Rescue, Marion County Emergency Management, Pleasantville Fire and Rescue, Runnells Fire and Rescue, Hartford Fire Department, Pleasant Hill Fire Department, and Prairie City Ambulance and Fire all assisted in the search effort. Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholt confirms the body of Dustin Dittmer, 34, of Colfax, was recovered near the Bennington boat ramp just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

The body was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner‘s Office for a determination of the cause of death.

“We’re excited to bring the family to a close,” says Sandholt. “We are grateful to all of the agencies that have assisted in the search effort.”

Dittmer was listed as missing after a boat capsized on Lake Red Rock around 4 p.m. on May 7.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DNR, Knoxville City Fire and Rescue, Marion County Emergency Management, Pleasantville Fire and Rescue, Runnells Fire and Rescue, Hartford Fire Department, Pleasant Hill Fire Department, and Prairie City Ambulance and Fire all assisted in searching.
